![]() This photo of the Llano Hotel seems as good a place as any to start when offering up a web site on the history of Midland, Texas. The Llano Hotel was a focal point of society in the early part of the 20th century. The site on which the Llano sat is more than likely a place you've been a number of times: the corner of Wall and Main (even though back then they called it the corner of Iowa and Abilene). Today it remains one of the most traversed sections of town. When you look at this picture, you're looking north from south of what is now the Midland Center. Of course in order to get into the Llano, you'll have to get past Midland's Homeland Security department. Photo courtesy Judge John Hyde.

I lived in Midland for about 10 years and my boys attended St. Ann School. Our group of parents started the Mardi Gras fundraiser. I became good friends of the Midkiff family and would love for them to be included in the historical piece. That huge home on the other side of the tracks that stands out (if still there) was their home in town, they had a ranch at Midkiff. Post office and town named for them.

Have been doing research on my family's history and have found that Aaron Dunn, the founder of the hotel, is my great great great grandfather. Thanks for the trip back in time.
